Benthic Macroinvertebrate Multimetric Index for River (BMIR): Development of a multimetric index based on benthic macroinvertebrates for rivers in Türkiye

چکیده

Stream types determined according to altitude, slope and alkalinity in six different hydrobiogeographic regions of Türkiye were taken as the basis study. In line with European Water Framework Directive, a macroinvertebrate based multimetric method was tested for Turkish rivers potential assessment. this study, benthic data (3502 samples obtained from 1925 stations reference points) used create index all river Türkiye. Nine (9) biological metrics evaluated development criteria chosen capture meaningful results at ecosystem, community individual levels. The metric combinations show best distinction between areas no or only very minor anthropogenic disturbances stressed (with discrimination efficiency values). index, which includes three categories, distinguishes slightly distorted an close 100%. Index values divided five-scale system one (High) zero (Bad) evaluation. Further testing research can be done so that will provide more useful result bioassessment tool decision makers regions. Also, methods by status is assessed on stress factors.

A Multimetric Benthic Macroinvertebrate Index for the Assessment of Stream Biotic Integrity in Korea

At a time when anthropogenic activities are increasingly disturbing the overall ecological integrity of freshwater ecosystems, monitoring of biological communities is central to assessing the health and function of streams. This study aimed to use a large nation-wide database to develop a multimetric index (the Korean Benthic macroinvertebrate Index of Biological Integrity—KB-IBI) applica...

Development of a benthic multimetric index for the Serra da Bocaina bioregion in Southeast Brazil.

Brazil faces a challenge to develop biomonitoring tools to be used in water quality assessment programs, but few multimetric indices were developed so far. This study is part of an effort to test and implement programs using benthic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators in Rio de Janeiro State. Our aim was first to test the Multimetric Index for Serra dos Órgãos (SOMI) for a different area--Serra...

Assessment of Ecological Quality of the Tajan River in Iran Using a Multimetric Macroinvertebrate Index and Species Traits

The objectives of this study were to assess the biological water of the Iranian Tajan River using different metrics, i.e., a Multimetric Macroinvertebrate Index (MMI) and a traits-based method. Twenty-eight physico-chemical parameters, 10 habitat factors, and abundance of macroinvertebrates were obtained for 17 sites. The Shahid-Rajaie dam divides the Tajan River into an up- and downstream part...

Assessment of fish farm effluents on macroinvertebrates based on biological indices in Tajan River (north Iran)

Impacts of effluent from fish farming activities on fluvial ecosystems lead to deterioration of water quality and changes in the macroinvertebrates assemblage. In this study, the influence of fish farm effluents on water quality and macroinvertebrates communities of Tajan River was investigated to evaluate the suitability of macroinvertebrates based on biological metrics and indices. Benthic...
